Budapest, Hungary
April 20-21, 2015
Hosted by the Political Economy Research Group
Central European University
We are pleased to invite applications for the next annual Political Economy Doctoral Workshop in Budapest, Hungary, April 20-21, 2015. Discussion panels will be organized according to accepted proposals and will be chaired by established scholars and advanced doctoral students. The workshop will take place in parallel with the Annual Doctoral Conference of CEU’s Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy, and International Relations. As such, there will be plenty of opportunity for exchange with students and scholars from your own and related fields. The event will feature keynote speakers Mark Hallerberg (Hertie School of Governance, Berlin) and Isabela Mares (Columbia University, New York and Central European University, Budapest)
We welcome paper proposals in the field of political economy, including theoretical as well as empirical contributions. We anticipate applications focusing on a wide range of topics in comparative and international political economy, including inequality, development, labour market institutions, social movements, regime change, the welfare state, corporate governance, financial markets, economic and fiscal governance etc. The submission should be a standalone paper, rather than a dissertation chapter.
To apply, please send a 500-word proposal of your paper and a short (100-word) biography (in one document). A typical proposal should include the literature strand in which the research fits, the main research question or puzzle, a brief presentation of the data and the methodology employed (not necessary for theoretical contributions), as well as preliminary or expected findings.
Partial funding (accommodation in Budapest) is provided to all successful applicants. Depending on the number of applications, a maximum of eight papers will be accepted.
Proposals have to be sent no later than 15 February, 2015 to perg@ceu.hu . Accepted papers will have to be submitted by April 10, 2015. Applicants will be informed of the result of the selection process by the end of February 2015. For further information on the workshop, please write to PERG chair, Renira Angeles (angeles_renira-corinne@ceu-budapest.edu ) or workshop co-organiser, Alex Moise (moise_alexandru@ceu-budapest.edu ).
(Preliminary program will be announced in January 2015)
